Do Affirmations Really Work?
Let’s take a look at what AFFIRMATIONS are.
AFFIRM - ATION
When we say affirmations we are affirming, claiming, declaring or stating in the positive that something is true.
One might ask, “If you are claiming, declaring and stating that something is true when it is not necessarily true right now - isn’t that lying?”
In a word, yes. However, let’s remember there is a good side and a bad side to everything. Let’s think of affirmations as the GOOD lies.
The psyche does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. That is why we cry during the sad scene of a movie, even though logically we know that what we are watching is make believe.
Affirmations are like positive brainwashing. With affirmations we are changing the tape in our heads. We are changing are thoughts and our perspective to see and feel things as we would like them to be.
We are appealing to our psyche - or subconscious - to accept the affirmations as true. Eventually things start to change in our lives and before long, the thing that was once just an affirmation is now true.
Do affirmations work? I am a witness that they do. There are thousands of people around the world who, if asked, will testify that affirmations do work.
When affirming we must:
* Say it
* Write it
* Feel it (Feel that it is already so - that it is already a reality)
Affirmations allow us to focus on what we DO want.
Affirmations allow us to see our goals already achieved.
Affirmations allow us to see our glasses half full instead of half empty!
1. The spirit or soul.
2. Psychiatry The mind functioning as the center of thought, emotion, and behavior and consciously or unconsciously adjusting or mediating the body's responses to the social and physical environment.
[Latin psȳchē, from Greek psūkhē, soul; see bhes- in the Appendix of Indo-European roots.]
